To correct bite issues and straighten teeth, the traditional braces method includes brackets on the teeth and connecting wires that are tightened over the course of treatment. Clear braces use the same method but the materials are tooth-colored to avoid a metallic look.  Accelerated orthodontics are applied to correct cosmetic issues in about six months. Clear Ceramic Braces

Another clear option for orthodontics that Dr. Gregory Ross, DDS offers aside from Invisalign, is ceramic braces. Ceramic braces are made to blend in with the teeth so they aren’t visible. Patients can choose between clear elastic ties or white metal ties to hold the braces in place. Ceramic braces are more sensitive and can easily break or chip. They require more maintenance and more time to install than metal braces, which increases overall treatment time and cost.

Often, adults who desire a straighter smile but want to avoid “metal mouth” will choose to go the clear route. Clear (ceramic) braces are less noticeable than metal braces and they move teeth faster than plastic aligners because they stay in place 24/7, unlike Invisalign, where the patient has to change aligner trays every two weeks. Ceramic braces are made of ceramic alloys. In addition to the clear ceramic brackets, there are two types of brace wires or ties that can make them more discreet.

Invisalign

An Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear, removable plastic aligners that are custom-made for your teeth. 

To straighten your teeth with Invisalign, we begin with an examination.  The Invisalign treatment is appropriate for almost anyone, and a dentist can determine if Invisalign will be effective in achieving the smile you want. Impressions of your teeth are used to create a full set of aligners customized to your teeth and your treatment plan. 

Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks, depending on your individual treatment plan. To get the best results, they should be worn at least 20 hours a day. You should remove the aligners to eat and to brush and floss. A typical treatment plan is completed in less than a year.

Clear Braces

Aesthetic improvements have been made to traditional braces that can achieve the same results without the metallic element.  Brackets are now available in clear and translucent forms that are designed to resist staining over time.  To connect these brackets, wires the color of natural teeth are used.  The final look is not totally invisible, but is much more subtle than traditional silver braces and doesn’t look metallic.  With these clear braces, you can achieve the same great results traditional braces offer with a better disguise during treatment.
